Introduction to Career and Life Planning
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- Overview of career and life planning; what is it?
- Introduce the model of career and life planning; how do we use it?
- To identify where on the career map each student currently is and what steps need to be taken to progress; where am I?
- Discuss career portfolios; what do I need to do?
- Discuss the importance of global considerations in the career and life planning process (i.e. need to consider the possibility of working outside of Canada ); what do I need to consider?

Interests and Aptitudes — Find a Direction
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- An assessment of student interests and aptitudes
- Identify specific career area(s) that coincide with the interest and aptitude assessments for each student for exploration

Global Career Trends — The World of Tomorrow
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- Identify dominant changes (social, demographic, technological, economic) shaping the global labour market.
- Research and anticipate the impact of major changes and events on career trends and the career/life planning process, and develop an understanding of how the demand for occupations and skills will change over time as will the way work is done.
- Discuss how the workplace and work opportunities, locally and globally, are affected by these changes.
- Explore the occupational outlook of a career area of interest, considering the impact of global trends on the future of the related careers.

Career Exploration I — Research Your Choices This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- An overview of research strategies to help you effectively research specific careers by using a variety of tools such as online resources, informational interviews, and job-shadowing.
- Present the purpose and an overview of the contents of a career portfolio.
- Use online tools to explore details about specific career(s) of interest including information on career trends, future demand, job descriptions, educational requirements, and approximate financial implications.
- Discuss volunteering as a way to explore career areas of interest and a way to gain work experience.
- Discuss labour market and educational trends.

Career Exploration II — Making Your Choice
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- Review of the chosen occupation, its educational and financial requirements and job description, and how these relate to student aptitudes and interests, academic potential and financial requirements.
- Highlight areas of current achievement and areas of concern in meeting your objectives..
- Identify strategies to either overcome areas of concern or strategies to explore career alternative if the areas of concern are overwhelming.
- Provide tools to monitor achievements and areas of improvement towards meeting goals.

Career Panel — What do you do?
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- A broad overview of a variety of careers by individuals in the respective fields; job descriptions, likes/dislikes about their job, educational and financial requirements, perspectives on future career trends.
- Five-minute presentations by each individual; 10 fields represented ranging from traditional fields requiring university training to trades fields requiring apprenticeships and/or college-level education.
- General Q & A.
- Small-group break-out areas for discussion.

Emerging Careers - Panel
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- A broad overview of non-traditional and poorly known careers with high projected future demand; job descriptions — likes/dislikes about their job, educational and financial requirements, perspectives on future career trends.
- Ten-minute presentations by each individual; five fields represented.
- General Q & A and small group discussion.

High School Course Selection — Prepare and Explore
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- A framework for high school course selection to match chosen career paths and university requirements. Students will be asked to bring their high school course schedules and offerings from high school with them.
- Guidance on high school course selection, identify high school course schedules using university students as facilitators to provide groups of students with similar career aspirations support.

Apprenticeships and Trades — How do they fit?
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- An overview of available non-university post-secondary training options.
- Opportunity to discuss process of identifying the ‘right’ school for students — school selection.
- Opportunity to discuss advantages and disadvantages of non-university post-secondary training.
- Opportunity to discuss credentials and portability of trades.
- Opportunity to discuss general academic and financial requirements to pursue training.
- Review some of the specific trades and lifestyles associated with them.
- Opportunity to discuss and review some specific training institutions and programs to show the type of information that you can collect and will need to make your choices and decisions.
- Opportunity to discuss and review the resources that are available to educate you and support you in entering the trades. This includes government funding and organizations that promote the trades in Canada.

This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- How to identify the ‘right’ school.
- An overview of available Canadian universities.
- An overview of ‘top tier’ institutions for various fields of study.
- General academic and financial requirements to pursue training.
- Strategies for maximizing chances of admission.

Post-Secondary Funding — Paying your way
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- An estimated of the cost of your chosen field of study.
- Basic financial resources and discuss some of the pros and cons for each. For example student loans, earn/study, armed forces, employer- sponsored, part-time employment, scholarships, parent support, etc. Considerate of the requirements as a function of chosen stream of post-secondary education (e.g. study at international university vs. technical/trades training)
- A review of bursaries/scholarships and the process of application. Identify key factors to success in applying for and getting bursaries and scholarships.
- Overview of the basics of financial planning.

Employer Youth Forum — What do we need?
This workshop will seek to provide you with the following:
- To bring together students and employers from a variety of backgrounds to discuss what employers look for when hiring, and their future outlook on careers.
- To discuss relevant trends in the job marketplace from the perspective of the employer.
- To introduce volunteering, work internships, and student employment to gain experience while going to school.

- An overview of the concept of emotional intelligence and its relation to success in post-secondary training.
