Post-Secondary Academic & Career Services
The majority of universities and colleges in Canada have a Career Centre that is accessible to current students and alumni. These Centres provide a wide range of valuable services that are usually free-of-charge. Students have access to mentors and counselors to guide them towards their goals. Their missions include supporting students and alumni to succeed in their transition to either the world of work or to further education; as well as to provide access to a wide and varied range of employment opportunities. This includes permanent, part-time and summer jobs, as well as internships, within Canada and abroad. Some examples of these services include:
- Identifying skills and abilities
- Operating list-serves to provide information on Non Academic Career Information, Academic Career Information, International Experience, Recruiting News, Summer Opportunities, various types of careers
- CV, Resume, Cover Letter Support
- Speaker/panel series with leaders in various fields
- Recruiting fairs for summer and full-time jobs
- Interview Workshops for jobs and graduate schools
- Evaluating and negotiating job offers
- Working abroad information sessions/fairs
- Emotional/social support
