StudentsAcquiring a Canadian university education is the single greatest determining factor of an individual's future success. While a university education makes available a wider variety of job options, it is estimated that half of all current occupations in North America will become obsolete in the next 20 to 30 years. More than ever, this highlights the importance of choosing a career carefully and of seeking multiple degrees in varied disciplines. Faced with the challenge of succeeding in today's information-based society, students are encouraged to pursue undergraduate studies in humanities and social science in order to develop critical thinking and inquiry skills, as well as solid writing skills. Attaining academic excellence throughout the undergraduate years is critical to enabling entry into highly regarded graduate and professional schools and programs. Pursuing multiple degrees in diverse disciplinary areas provides a starting point from which to advance understanding and knowledge of the complex issues facing the world today. Emerging career trends also underline the importance of learning multiple languages and engaging in cross-cultural experiences as a key to further harnessing the skills and competencies required to be successful in today's global economy.
